It’s no mystery why kimonos have eased into our fall wardrobe this year, just with a slightly different name, ruanas. Ruanas, which originated from the regions of Columbia, are very similar to kimonos but are made with thicker material. They are the perfect accessory for chilly weather and provide the same comforts of a cozy shawl, but with the added benefit of sleeves. I recently purchased my first official ruana at Evereve and I’ll be sharing how I styled it with y’all today!
To be honest, styling this look was made quite easy with the help of the sweet ladies at Evereve. They had this beautiful lightweight ruana draped perfectly over a simple tee. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was my kind of outfit! And as it turned out, the tee was also by one of my favorite brands, Sub Urban Riots. Their t-shirts fit so well and have the cutest messages imprinted on them. I quickly grabbed both items, and started to plan out how and when I would wear these new fun pieces!
When you live in the south, layering clothes is not only functional but also sensible. Especially for this time of the year, when summer temperatures continue to sneak into fall months. I’ve learned the key to layering clothes is not to overwhelm the look. For example, since the ruana was the star of the show for this outfit, everything else had to be a bit more subtle. I opted for my go-to black skinnies, plain black booties and a touch of glam with my Tory Burch Fleming maroon bag! All these pieces complimented each other without stealing the thunder from the main attraction, the ruana. I opted for mainly black pieces to give this warm and cozy ruana an edgier touch. All in all, this made for the perfect fall outfit and I couldn’t have been happier to wear it!
